Wildlife Agencies found on Guam
Several local and federal agencies regulate, monitor, or study the living
resources on and around Guam. Here's who they are and what they do:
- Division of Aquatic & Wildlife Resources, Department of
Agriculture, GovGuam (that's us): Endangered speciss recovery and
Conservation. Some BTS control activities focusing on endangered
species.
- Guam National Wildlife Refuge, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Guam:
in charge of the refuge at Ritidian Point.
- Ecological Services, USFWS, Honolulu: Handles bureaucratic side of
USFWS such as listing, permits, NEPA, contaminents, etc.
- Biological Resourses Division, US Gelogical Service, Guam: Research
into natural history control of BTS
- Wildlife Services, USDA, Guam: Operational control of BTS both on Guam
(area snake control and prevention of BTS sprpead to other islands). Also
have a research arm in states conducting research into contral
methods.
- Natural Resources Conservation Service, USDA. Formerly Soil
Conservation Service: .
- Special agent , USFWS, Guam, Enforcement of Federal fish &
wildlife laws.
- Special agent, NMFS, NOAA, US Dept. Commerence: Enforcement of Federal
marine resource laws.
How do I get a fishing license?
You do not need a licence to fish on Guam. However, there are five Marine
Preserves where you may use only limited kinds of gear, or none at all. Also
remember that corals are protected and may not be taken from any area, even
if they are dead.
How do I get a hunting license?
You need to submit an application to DAWR to hunt certain regulated species
(pigs, deer, francolin). Click here for regulations, details on the

How do I get a permit to bring live fish or plants to Guam?
You need to submit an application to DAWR. Certain species are prohibited
either because they are endangered (e.g., fruit bats, turtles), or because
they have been classified as pests (some water plants).... Click here for

What is ciguatera and how do I avoid it?
Ciguatera is a kind of food poisoning resulting from eating certain reef
fish. Larger/older predators such as moray eels and barracuda are the most
likely sources of this poison in local fish. The toxin is produced by a
microscopic alga and is concentrated up the food chain. More

What times are you open?
DAWR offices are open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekdays except holidays.
What do I do if I see a brown treesnake?
Kill it if possible, and report it to.... ???
I have an insect problem, can you help me?
Sorry. If you have a problem with insects, you should contact an
entomologist at UOG College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (735- xxx) .
DAWR does not handle bug problems.
I'm confused between Department of Agriculture and UOG College of
Agriculture
